Fictionary

Fictionary is a word game in which you must guess the definition of an obscure word.

Play in groups of five or six. The game ideally consists of an equal number of rounds.

Round 1:

a) The player who celebrated his/her birthday most recently will act as "Picker" for this round.

b) The Picker selects an obscure word from a dictionary. It should be a word the Picker believes nobody in the group will know. The Picker announces the word to the group and spells it out.

c) If somebody knows the definition of the word, he/she must say so, and a new word must be selected.

d) Each player writes down a credible definition for the word, initials it and hands it to the Picker.

e) The Picker shuffles the definitions (including his/her own correct one - which may be worded differently from the actual dictionary definition).

f) The Picker reads the list out loud. On the second reading, all the players vote for the definition they believe is correct. The Picker does not vote.

g) Points are scored: You get 1 point if you voted for the correct definition. You get one point if another player voted for your definition. The Picker gets three points if nobody voted for the correct definition.

h) The role as Picker is handed over to the next player in line. Play proceeds with round 2.
